How long does it take to produce a SAP Calculation?
A SAP Calculation typically takes 1 to 3 working days to produce, depending on project complexity and document readiness. It may take longer if the required documents are not available, as a SAP assessor needs to provide evidence to support their data inputs. Additionally, if the initial design or completed dwelling doesn’t meet Part L requirements, the assessor will offer guidance on achieving compliance, which can further extend the process.
When should I get SAP Calculations?
You need SAP Calculations at two stages:
Design Stage – before construction begins, to ensure the design will comply.
As‑Built Stage – once the home is completed, based on the final installed specifications.
Building Control require SAP Calculations at both stages.
What is the process for obtaining an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for a converted property?
If the property is converted from a commercial or non domestic space into a domestic dwelling then it needs an EPC carried out using full SAP calculations by an On Construction Domestic Energy Assessor. This also applies to properties divided into multiple flats. Once an EPC has been lodged at time of conversion, subsequent EPCs can be carried out by a Domestic Energy Assessor for existing dwellings.
